Are you making the most of your Library?

The Library provides a range of flexible information skills training courses for all NHS healthcare staff and students.  Each session lasts for approximately 1 hour and can be tailored to your needs.  Training sessions can be run on a 1:1 or small group basis and can be either in person or via MS Teams.

Courses Available:

Evidence Searching Skills

• Are you finding the most relevant and up to date evidence to support evidence based practice, CPD, coursework or study?
• Is it a while since you last searched the healthcare databases?
• Are you finding all the information you need?
• Are you confident in evidence searching?

This 1 hour course will highlight all the services and resources available through the Library.   Whether you're new to evidence searching or are looking to expand your knowledge, the Library team are here to help and the course will be tailored to your needs.

Introduction to Critical Appraisal Skills

• How to I use effectively evaluate research evidence?
• How do I use checklists?
• What's CASP?

This 1 hour session will provide an overview of the critical appraisal process and includes working through an example research article.

Accessing e-journals, e-resources and OpenAthens

• Having problems accessing electronic full text articles?
• Not sure what resources are available through OpenAthens?
• Do you want to set up automatic alerts for tables of contents pages or evidence searches?

This 1 hour course will highlight the resources available and provide you with the skills to use them.

How to Reference and Use Referencing Management Tools

 This 1 hour session:

• Will help you organise your references from the start of your project / assignment.
• Highlight relevant resources available to support you eg: Cite them Right.
• Provides an overview of referencing management software eg RefWorks, Reference Manager, Endnote.

Revalidation

This 1 hour session includes:

• An overview of clinical decision making support tools for use at the point of care.
• Provides several current articles in your specialist field to read for self directed study
  and the tools to include this in your revalidation documentation.
• Signing up for personalised evidence based practice updates, helping you maintain
  your current skills and knowledge.
